Executive Vice President
Dennis Vermillion is currently executive vice president of Avista Corp. He was most recently Chief Executive Officer since October 2019. Dennis was also president of Avista Corp from January 2018 to October 2023. He served as senior vice president of Avista Corp and president of Avista Utilities from January 2010 to January 2018, and vice president of energy resources from July 2007 to January 2010. He was president and chief operating officer for Avista Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Avista Corp, from February 2001 until its sale in June 2007.
Dennis is a graduate of Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He joined Avista in 1985. Before stepping into several senior leadership roles, he held various staff and management positions across the business. His background includes experience in energy trading and marketing, risk management, resource operations, power/transmission contracting, resource planning and coordination, regulatory issues, and production cost modeling.
Dennis previously served as a board member for the American Gas Association (AGA), Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and Washington Roundtable. He is the past chairman of Alaska Electric Light and Power Company and served in that capacity for 10 years. He is also the past chairman of Western Energy Institute (WEI), former board member of the Avista Foundation and the Spokane County United Way, and past chairman of its Spokane County campaign.
